Anchor Marine Risk Management

Risk Management Services for the Recreational Marine Insurance Industry

Providing Recreational Marine Services and Support since 1977.

The Challenge- Pleasure craft of all types and sizes continue to grow in complexity and the related hazards and exposures are changing at an increasing pace. Meanwhile, the behavior of yacht owners and captains continues to evolve with societal changes. In addition, many of the applicable Standards are voluntary, leaving insurers with the challenge of understanding and enforcing those which are relevant to mitigating risk.

To expect an individual agent or underwriter to have an in-depth knowledge of all of this is asking a lot. But to expect him or her to stay on top of all of the latest changes and developments, in addition to all of their other responsibilities, is impossible. And a Marine Survey Report alone is often not enough to provide a full, accurate risk assessment. Every underwriter and agent needs an expert they can rely on to answer their technical questions. Unfortunately, not everybody has one.

The Impact-

  • Poor risks are accepted because of the difficulties interpreting a marginal Survey Report

  • Good business opportunities are missed due to the misunderstanding of a complex risk

  • Large premiums on high value hull policies have created opportunities for negligence

The Solution- On-demand technical support from experts who combine experience with a major underwriting company, on top of a solid foundation of broad, long-term and current boating industry knowledge and experience, to supplement your team’s existing know-how and help you make fully informed decisions.

John B. Wenz

SAMS Accredited Marine Surveyor

I’ve spent a long time working in nearly every area of the recreational marine industry, building a very broad range of experience and knowledge. For five years I served as Rec Marine Risk Consulting Manager at a very large P&C underwriting company. One thing became very clear to me, based on my daily activities- there’s a growing need for specialized support and technical advice in the recreational marine insurance industry.

When it comes to understanding and assessing risk at sea, there’s no substitute for practical experience. In spite of what some people think or say, there is NOT an algorithm for everything.
